Are you ready, kids?
Yep, you...probably are. Well, maybe. I dunno.
Man, SpongeBob's really made a splash hasn't he? Ever since the oh-so-far-ago year of 1999, everyone and their kids (more like all the kids and their parents) have been tuning it to see hilarity ensue between SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, and a host of other Bikini Bottomites. And in that time, thousands of other media have been released for either creative release or commercial. Amidst the coloring books, random-selection DVDs, and surprisingly good video games, definately the best of these additional releases have been the CDs.
Whether containing new or fan-favorite songs (and quite often both), SpongeBob SquarePants CDs have been surprisingly good listens, and one of the few kid-accessible cartoons with a truly great soundtrack (*cough Avatar cough cough*). A favorite of mine is "SpongeBob's Greatest Hits." Released in 2009, this collection contains most of my favorites from the classic era and a few of the only good ones in the far lesser newer era. And thus, I have decided to do what many consider to be an incredibly strange top ten list. The top ten songs on the album!
Sorry if you think this is worthless, but I love these songs, and if you love the show too and can't purchase the full album, then these are ones to definately look out for.
If you've heard these before or have enjoyed purchasing some of my selections, comment your favorites down below!
Water we waiting for? Let's go!
10) "SpongeBob SquarePants Theme Song (Original)" (Painty the Pirate)
Episode of origin: All (save "Whatever Happened to SpongeBob?" & "Truth or Square")
Place on CD: 01
And Because?: The classic. It had to be on here in some form, and with that hecka-creepy Cee-Lo attempt being the only other option on the album, what else was I supposed to do?
09) "Stadium Rave" (Uh...a stereo system?)
Episode of origin: "Jellyfish Jam"
Place on CD: 09
And Because?: My favorite instrumental song on the show, ironically coming with my second from the same episode. This is one of the few songs I would actually be willing to dance to.
08) "Ripped Pants" (SpongeBob & The Beachgoers)
Episode of origin: "Ripped Pants"
Place on CD: 05
And Because?: Iconic to the show, this was the first original song to be played, coming from the episode of the same name. This was also the first of many cases in which a different actor sang for SpongeBob, though that didn't always occur.
07) "My Tighty Whiteys" (SpongeBob)
Episode of origin: None
Place on CD: 07
And Because?: Speaking of, this is good and true Tom Kenny singing about his tighty whiteys. Or SpongeBob's, I guess. This was never played in any episode, and actually came from the album "The Best Day Ever," containing the title song along with a number of originals.
06) "F.U.N. Song" (SpongeBob & Plankton)
Episode of origin: "F.U.N."
Place on CD: 03
And Because?: "F is for friends who do stuff together. U is for you and me. N is for anywhere at any time at all down here in the deep blue sea!" Coming from one of my favorite episodes, this is a highlight in an ep full of them.
05) "The Best Day Ever" (SpongeBob)
Episode of origin: "The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie"/"The Best Day Ever"
Place on CD: 11
And Because?: Originating from the movie's end credits, the SpongeBob crew liked this song so much it ended up getting its own episode and album. Not many are big fans of this song, but I find it adorable and catchy.
04) "Don't Be a Jerk (It's Christmas)" (SpongeBob)
Episode of origin: "It's a SpongeBob Christmas!"
Place on CD: 17
And Because?: Another song to get its own album and episode. This song was originally the center of a Christmas time commercial before it aired in the claymation "It's a SpongeBob Christmas!" special. It's in spirit to the season, and SpongeBob's innocence while singing about jerks is great. Even "The Very First Christmas" couldn't beat this.
03) "Gary's Song" (SpongeBob's subconsious)
Episode of origin: "Have You Seen This Snail?"
Place on CD: 13
And Because?: The ultimate song if you want to cry tears of laughter. It's truly beautiful, saddening, and funny at the same time. It comes straight from SpongeBob's heart (or subconsious I guess is where he sings it), and has you singing it at random points throughout the day.
02) "Campfire Song Song" (SpongeBob & Patrick)
Episode of origin: "The Camping Episode"
Place on CD: 04
And Because?: One of my favorite episodes from when I was younger and still one of my favorites today. It's the funniest song I've ever heard, with it transitioning to campfire music to rock, Patrick attempting to keep up, and Squidward's verse ("Good!"). I often repeat this track more than others.
Top 5 Honorable Mentions:
01) "Where's Gary"
The second track from "Have You Seen This Snail" is not as amazing, but still worth a good listen.
02) "Doing the Sponge"
The hilarious dance mix from "The Chaperone." Just picturing SB's dance is making me laugh.
03) "Idiot Friends"
A classic from the underrated Western parody "Pest of the West" ending off the special in style.
04) "The Bubble Song"
About the only good song from "Atlantis SquarePantis" comes from its beginning.
05) "A Day Like This -- iTunes Bonus Track"
Another best part from a special and also coming from the beginning. It is iTunes exclusive, tho.
01) "Goofy Goober Rock" (SpongeBob)
Episode of origin: "The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie"
Place on CD: 10
And Because?: "I'm a Goofy Goober -- ROCK!" Though the classic Goofy Goober song is extended into an incredibly weird track on the album, the final track from the album is by no means interfered with and that's all for the better! This song is awesome! It's fun to listen to, a great climax to the film, and has a killer guitar solo! 10/10! Wa-hoo!
Well, thanks a bunch y'all for reading my list!
For a quick update, Angel Series 3/4 and Sherlock top tens are in the making, and all coming soon!
And I'm off! I'm also ready to listen to some of these tracks, excuse me...
